Berhampur: A girl allegedly committed suicide by setting herself on fire in Kukudakhandi area of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per sources, the girl who set herself on fire after pouring kerosene on her on Monday night, died on Tuesday morning while undergoing treatment.
The girl set herself on fire along the road near Kukudakhandi block office. Locals present in the area rescued the woman and admitted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
While the police have registered a case in this connection, the reason behind the extreme step taken by the woman is yet to be ascertained. It is suspected that the woman took the extreme step over some domestic problems.
A native of Ambpua area, she stayed in a rented house opposite the Kukudakhandi block office. She was reportedly studying in a college.
The police have detained the father of the young woman. He is being interrogated by the police and investigation is in progress.
