Boudh: A college student was rescued after she attempted to commit suicide by jumping into river Mahanadi in Odisha’s Boudh district on Thursday.
As per reports, the Plus III first year student of Model Degree College at Bamanda, identified as Sandhyasini Pradhan of Helei village under Kiakata police station in the district, had gone to her college in the morning.
While she was returning after attending the classes in the evening, she parked her cycle and bag on Kiakata bridge over Mahanadi and jumped into the river.
As she started drowning, she started crying for help. While she was being carried away by the current in the river water, some youths bathing at the ghat behind Boudh Irrigation Colony jumped in and recued her from the water.
They rushed her to the district headquarters hospital at Boudh. She had sustained fracture in her waist bone, the medical sources said.
On being informed, a team from Boudh Model police station went to the river bank and started investigation. They were questioning the locals but could not confirm the cause of the student’s attempt to kill herself.
