Balasore: A 17-year-old girl student was found hanging in a college hostel in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday.
The incident took place at a private residential college located under the jurisdiction of Industrial Area Police Station of the district. The body of the student was found hanging in the girls’ hostel this morning.
The student, who hailed from Santaragadia in Nilagiri area of the district, was a student of Plus II Science in the college.
While it is suspected to be a case of suicide, the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained, police said.
On getting information, college and hostel authorities reached the spot. Police personnel also rushed to the site after being informed and launched an investigation.
Family members of the deceased also arrived at the college and sought to know the circumstances that led to the death of the girl.
While a case has been registered, investigation is underway and the cause of death will be known after postmortem. Further details are awaited.
