Paralekhemundi: A Class IX girl student was found dead in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Betaguda under Paralakhemundi block in Odisha’s Gajapati district on Monday with her family members alleging foul play.
All the girl students had gone to their respective hostel rooms after dinner on Sunday night. However, when the students woke up this morning they found the girl, identified as Soudaminin Raita, hanging.
School authorities were informed and the girl was rushed to Paralakhemundi District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) where she was pronounced dead.
On getting information, a team of police personnel reached the site and seized her body which was sent for postmortem.
While the exact reason behind the death of the girl was yet to be ascertained, her family members alleged that there was some foul play in the incident.
Stating that the girl was a bright and talented student, they claimed that she might have been murdered.
The girl had recently celebrated her birthday and had never shown any abnormal behaviour, teachers said.
Police said investigation into the death is underway and necessary steps will be taken after getting the postmortem report.
