Bhubaneswar: A girl student of a prominent college in Bhubaneswar has alleged that she was raped and sexually harassed by a Physics teacher.
The accused is a Reader in Physics and NCC officer (Naval wing).
The Internal Complaints Committee of the college is inquiring into the allegations.
The state Higher Education Department has also written to the college principal, saying that “this needs to be thoroughly inquired into as per the procedure laid down in Sexual Harassment of Women at Work Place (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013”, according to a report on a news portal.
“In view of the above, you are requested to place this complaint before the Local Complaints Committee of the district constituted under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 for inquiry and necessary action,” the department said.
According to the news portal’s report, the Internal Committee of the college is yet to find any evidence against the accused. Meanwhile, the Higher Education Department has transferred the accused to Sambalpur district.
