Cuttack: Fire personnel retrieved the body of a girl, who had allegedly jumped into the Mahanadi river, at Kandarpur under Athagarh police limits in Cuttack district on Monday after a two-hour search operation.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
According to sources, some passersby saw that the girl come on a scooter and park the vehicle on the Jatamundia bridge at Banki at around 12:45 pm. She later jumped into the deep waters.
Following this, they immediately alerted the police about the same.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be known, police and locals suspect that she has committed suicide due to mental stress.
Police have seized two-wheeler and sent the body for postmortem.
