Bhubaneswar: Denizens of Bhubaneswar came together recently to protest over climate inaction.
More than 300 people walked from Ram Mandir Square to Master Canteen Square, performing and sloganeering about climate change.
Celebrities such as Anu Choudhury and Partha Sarathi joined the event.
Shweta Agarwal, Co-Founder of Unmukt Foundation, highlighted how empty words of leaders in the fight against climate change has affected the environment.
The group has prepared a list of demands regarding emission reduction, phasing out of fossil fuel, biodiversity restoration, waste segregation, sewage treatment, restoration of ponds in Ekamra Kshetra and creating urban forests that will be handed over to the Chief Minister, the Governor, and the Minister of Forest and Environment.
The protests began with a song by Soham and Ritika – two students of KIIT School of Management. It was followed by a performance by a skating group, Utkal Unicorns. School children of Shishu Vikash Vidya Mandir, Khandagiri Bari and students of INIFD, Bhubaneswar, core members of The Green Army Chapter of Unmukt Foundation and others participated in the protest.
To popularise the use of bicycles, Tirthankar of Decathlon performed a few breath-taking cycling stunts.
The Green Army Local Community Chapters within Bhubaneswar appealed to citizens to dedicate 1 hour per week towards the environment, and reduce carbon footprint atindividual level.
