GM Leads The Way As ECoR Officials Plan Gifts For Babies Born On Shramik Specials

Bhubaneswar: Babies born on board Shramik Special trains will receive gifts from East Coast Railway (ECoR) officials. It will be in cash or kind, the idea being to support the new mothers.

It’s a voluntary gesture by officers of the zone, with ECoR general manager Vidya Bhushan leading the way. He sent Rs 5,000 to 19-year-old Meena Kumbhar, who delivered a baby boy — the third childbirth in the zone so far.

Two of the babies were born in Titlagarh and one at Balangir. All of them have been shifted to government hospitals.

“East Coast Railway General Manager Vidya Bhushan today made an announcement that ECoR officials, on personal and voluntary sponsorship basis, will sponsor a gift coupon to the new born babies in ECoR jurisdiction,” PTI quoted an ECoR spokesperson as saying.

“The GM himself sent a gift amount of Rs 5,000 for the baby. Other senior officials have volunteered to sponsor gift items in subsequent cases, if any, of babies born in Shramik Special Trains,” he added.

Since Shramik Special service started on May 1 to carry stranded migrant workers to their home states, 37 children have been born on board these trains and on railway premises in different parts of the country.
