Going Strong At 90: KK Venugopal May Be Reappointed India’s Attorney General

New Delhi: KK Venugopal will be 91 years old in three months’ time. But for him, age is just a number.

The senior advocate, whose term as Attorney General for India ends on June 30, may get a fresh term, The Indian Express learnt from Central government sources.

Venugopal first took over as attorney general (AG) — top law officer of Central government — on July 1, 2017, succeeding Mukul Rohatgi.

There is no fixed term for the attorney general, but he is usually appointed for a period of three years.

When Venugopal’s three-year term was about to end in 2020, he had requested the government to give him a reappointment for one year, considering his advanced age.

Last year also, Venugopal was reappointed for a year.

Given the fact that Venugopal has been handling high-profile cases in Supreme Court and his experience at the Bar, the government may reappoint him again.
