Bhubaneswar: The Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department on Tuesday seized 959.990 grams of gold from a woman passenger at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) here.
According to sources, the woman, who belongs to Maharashtra, arrived here by an Air India flight from Dehi.
A search of her personal baggage’s led to the recovery of nine pieces of gold bars of foreign origin valued at Rs 33, 16,579 concealed inside an emergency light.
The smuggled gold has been seized under Customs Act, 1962, an official said.
This apart, 122 packets of cigarettes worth Rs 1,22,000 were also seized. Both the items were detected during meticulous scanning of her checked-in baggage.
