Bhubaneswar: Miscreants decamped with gold ornaments, cash and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees from the house of a lawyer, on the outskirts of the Odisha capital.
The theft took place when the family was away to attend the last rite rituals of a relative.
According to sources, the owner of the house, Radhanath Samantray, had passed away on November 18. After 17 days, his uncle too breathed his last. Samantray’s family was away to attend the last rite rituals of the relative, when their house at Athantar village under Balipatna block was reportedly robbed
The family had left the keys with a relative, who stays nearby. On Thursday, though he found the grill at the entrance locked as usual, the inner doors, almirahs, cupboards, suitcases and trunks were all open.
On being intimated, Samantray family rushed back home and found that miscreants had fled away with golden ornaments, including three chains, two bangles, ear rings and a necklace, along with Rs 50,000 in cash.
They lodged an FIR with Balipatana police, who after preliminary inquiry have initiated an investigation into the incident, sources added.
It can be recalled that incidents of theft have been reported in several houses, including a few apartments on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, in the last one month.
