Khurda: Unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold ornaments and other valuables from Maa Ugratara temple, one of the Shakti peethas in Odisha, at Tangi in Khurda district on Saturday night.
The theft came to light after the priests arrived at the shrine this morning.
It is suspected that the miscreants disabled the CCTV cameras before committing the theft. While the exact value of the stolen ornaments is yet to be ascertained, the donation box at the temple is is said to be intact.
Police have cordoned off the temple premises and initiated a thorough investigation into the incident.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Odisha government had included the Ugratara temple for development under the 5T programme.
