Jajpur: Gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 15 lakh were stolen by unidentified miscreants from a Durga Puja mandap in Korei area of Odisha’s Jajpur district.
As per information, the incident took place at the mandap set up at a temple in Bangali Sahi area under the jurisdiction of Korei police station in the wee hours of Saturday.
According to the complaint filed by the temple priest and puja committee members with Korei police, the theft occurred between 2 am and 3 am. The loot took place after the temple priest and the committee members went to sleep after having dinner.
The thieves allegedly broke into the complex and took away gold and silver ornaments, including a crown, necklace, trident, earrings, and nose rings of Goddess Durga and other deities.
The committee members stated that they had locked the door after dinner. When they woke up, they were taken aback to find that the ornaments were missing.
Based on the complaint, police have launched an investigation into the incident.
