Bhubaneswar: Unidentified miscreants targeted the famous Sunadei temple in the heart of Odisha capital and decamped with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs five lakh.
The theft committed at Sunadei temple located at Tinimundia Chhak near Nicco Park area in Bhubaneswar came to light on Tuesday morning.
According to sources, the thieves entered the temple premises by scaling the boundary wall and then got into the main shrine complex by breaking two locks. Apart from gold and silver ornaments, several other articles including sarees were found to have been stolen.
When the priest of the temple found the locks broken the ornaments missing this morning and alerted the shrine management officials. Subsequently, the police were informed about the incident.
The priest reportedly stated that the thieves have looted the eyes of the Goddess made of gold and other items including a silver crown, while the articles in other temples inside the complex are intact.
Police personnel along with forensic experts visited the temple and launched an investigation into the incident. Further details are awaited.
