Cuttack: The DRI officials seized gold worth more than Rs 6 crore during smuggling and arrested two persons in this connection in Odisha’s Cuttack on Saturday.
According to sources, the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had received reliable information about smuggling of huge amount of gold in a car from Kolkata. During checking the vehicles at the Bandalo (Manguli) toll plaza, they intercepted a car on the evening of March 28.
On searching the car, they found gold in biscuit forms concealed inside the door cavities. The seized gold weighed 9,180 gram (9.18 kg) and its value was estimated to be Rs 6.44 crore.
The DI officials seized the car and also arrested two persons travelling in the car under the Customs Act, 1962, the sources said.
However, neither the identity of the arrested persons nor their destination has been revealed.
