Bhubaneswar: While the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch has made a breakthrough in the modus operandi of the self-styled Golden Baba alias Jyotiranjan Beura, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will also conduct simultaneous probe.
The EOW, during the interrogation of the Golden Baba, found that the conman had prepared fake documents to defraud money of over crores. The annual turnover of the fraudster from nine group of companies was Rs 3769 crore while his annual Income Tax returns was Rs 4.16 crore. The nine group of companies have their office in Durban (South Africa), Singapore, Dubai and Malaysia. To defraud the rich businessmen and leading business establishments, he had prepared fake documents which included stamp papers of the Income Tax department and the Chartered Accountant Farms.
During the one-day remand, the EOW raided the house of the Golden Baba and seized several incriminating documents. From these documents, it was found that he had an agreement to provide financial assistance of Rs 200 crore to a private hospital at Thane in Mumbai, Rs 300 crore to the Engineering Construction Ltd in Hyderabad and Rs 50 crore to the JK Medical System in Bhubaneswar through fake documents. Apart from this, he had an agreement with 4-5 companies for which he had collected Rs 100 crore through the post-dated cheques, which have been seized by the EOW.
“The EOW prepares a specific plan of action for each important case to carry out its investigation in a specified timeline. The action plan has already been prepared and we have begun our investigation accordingly. As decided, the EOW cannot give any information prior to any raids,” Crime Branch ADG, Santosh Upadhyay told mediapersons here on Monday.
Admitting that the Golden Baba had prepared fake documents, his counsel Dibyalok Mahapatra said that these documents are in the stage of preparation and there has been no scam. “Preparation of fake documents is not a crime unless and until it used against someone,” he pointed out.
