New Delhi: It was a red letter day for Indian boxing as the hosts scooped 2 more gold medals to finish with 4 in the IBA Women’s World Championships here on Sunday.
Lovlina Borgohain, a bronze-medallist in the Tokyo Olympics, went two better at the Worlds by winning the 75 kg category.
The 25-year-old boxer from Assam did well to overcome two-time Commonwealth Games medallist Caitlin Parker of Australia by a split decision of 5-2 in the final.

Lovlina followed Nikhat Zareen to the podium top after the latter outpunched two-time Asian champion Nguyen Thi Tam 5-0 in the 50 kg category final today.
Nikhat became only the second Indian boxer, after the legendary MC Mary Kom, to win the World Championship title more than once. Mary Kom is a six-time winner.
On Saturday, India earned their first two gold medals through the gloves of Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg) and Saweety Boora (81 kg).
Indians thus completed a 100% record, winning every final they competed in. They matched their best ever showing of 4 gold medals, which they had achieved in the 2006 meet.
