New Delhi: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) director general Dr Balram Bhargava on Wednesday released MUDRA Toolbox, a ‘pioneering initiative’ to transform India’s dementia and mild cognitive impairment research and clinical practices.
The Multilingual Dementia Research and Assessment (MUDRA) Toolbox includes a range of cognitive tests that evaluate the different cognitive domains affected in persons with dementia, ICMR said.
A collective effort by seven leading centres in India — NIMHANS (Bangalore), AIIMS (New Delhi), SCTIMST (Trivandrum), NIMS (Hyderabad), Apollo Hospital (Kolkata), Manipal Hospital (Bangalore), and Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College – MUDRA Toolbox initiative has been undertaken by ICMR Neuro-Cognitive Tool Box (ICMR-NCTB) consortium.
The Toolbox has been developed to meet demands for a standardized set of cognitive tests that is culturally appropriate. It will be available for clinical and research purposes to diagnose dementia, says ICMR.
It has been standardized across five languages – Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada — and is designed for use among people aged between 40 and 80 years.
