Bhubaneswar: City denizens can now look to the light and sound show at Shanti Stupa at Dhauli Hill. It was lying defunct since the last nine months following Cyclone Fani.

According to official sources, it may restart from next week.

India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) had won the tender and assigned a Delhi-based firm, Tricolor India, for repair work. The project has almost been completed. The show will resume shortly after examining the technical part of the system, said Tourism Officer, Odisha Tourism (Bhubaneswar office) Ajay Kumar Rout.

Before Fani, the light and sound show used to show epic scenes from Dhauli’s eventful past.

The show was launched at Shanti Stupa on August 15, 2015 in a joint collaboration of both the State and Central governments with an investment of around Rs 6.6 crore.

In the 35-minutes show presented in three languages (English, Hindi and Odia), the audience can witness a great story glorifying the Kalinga Empire, feuds within the Mauryan empire, King Ashoka’s rise to power and his epic transformation from Chandashoka (cruel Ashoka) to Dharmashoka (Ashoka on the path of religion) at a cost of Rs 25 per person. It also shows the gruesome Kalinga War and its morbid aftermath as well as King Ashoka’s remorse at the massive bloodbath and ends with Ashoka renouncing violence, embracing Buddhism and propagating the religion in the rest of the world.
