Good Samaritans: Odisha Cops Arrange Bus For Jharkhand Migrants To Go Home

Balangir: Policemen in Balangir’s Kantabanji town did a good deed on Saturday when they arranged a bus for 48 migrant labourers to travel to their native places in Jharkhand.

A group of labourers were spotted cycling towards Jharkhand. The police took them to a nearby quarantine centre and gave them food and medicines, The New Indian Express reported.

On being queried, the labourers informed the Odisha cops that they had been cycling their way from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and were headed to Badgar village in Jharkhand amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Hungry and thirsty, the Jharkhand labourers narrated to policepersons how they had been harassed by people on the way. At some places, they were not allowed to touch tubewells even as they pleaded they were thirsty.

There were reports of police coming to the aid of the public in Bangomunda and Deogaon also. They rescued 7 and 10 Jharkhand-bound labourers, respectively, from those two places. In coordination with district administration, they arranged a bus in which all 17 workers were sent to Jharkhand.
