Balasore: A goods train had a narrow escape as the fire that erupted in some of its wagons was brought under control in time in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday evening.
According to sources, the goods train carrying coal was going from Nergundi in Cuttack district to Durgapur of West Bengal. Some railway staff at Markona station spotted the fire in its wagons and informed their higher officials.
Markona station master alerted the guard of the goods train and Soro station master. He also informed the Fire Brigade to be ready at the station.
The loco pilot stopped the train at Soro railway station in the district and immediately the Fire personnel got engaged in extinguishing the fire. Since it was already night, it took them some time to being the flames under control.
However, they managed to douse the fire completely and nobody was injured in the incident, the sources said.
It may be noted that a wagon of goods train had caught fire at Rupsa railway station in the district on June 10.
