Paradip: It was a close shave for the occupants of an SUV when the vehicle was hit by a goods train in the restricted zone of Paradip Port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday.
According to preliminary reports, the SUV was dragged for around 30 metres after being hit by the coal-laden goods train. The vehicle was reportedly crossing the railway track when the goods train rammed into it and dragged it.
While the SUV suffered some damage, its occupants had a miraculous escape as the goods train was reportedly moving at a slow speed. The mishap took place ear the Mechanical Coal Handling Plant (MCHP) canteen.
While the circumstances that led to the mishap were yet to be ascertained, it was suspected to have taken place due to carelessness of the driver of the SUV, which was carrying some personnel of a private company.
Senior officials of CISF and Paradip Port’s traffic department visited the site following the incident and made arrangements for track clearance.
