Amid a large number of people stranded away from their homes, Google India has teamed up with the Indian government to locate night shelters and places where food is available in cities.
The feature is available on smartphones and also on KaiOS devices. Hindi is also supported.
The feature can be accessed via Google Maps, Search, and Google Assistant.
The search engine giant has also set up a helpline number to access Google Assistant. This is aimed at users on 2G and slower networks.
Vodafone and Idea users can dial 000-800-919-1000 and enquire about food and night shelters in their cities. It is available in both Hindi and English. Currently, the facility is available across 33 cities in India and has enlisted around 1,500 such shelters.
