Google on Wednesday announced an update for Google Maps that will show the nearest public toilets. The service has been rolled out in association with Swachh Bharat Mission and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs.
It has currently mapped over 57,000 public toilets across 2,300 cities in India.
To search for toilets, users will just have to type in ‘public toilets near me’ using the search option in Google Maps or even on Google Search.
“With Google Maps, our aim has always been to help people as they navigate and explore the world, wherever they are. And we believe that making information about public sanitation facilities easily accessible to people is a key element for social good — one that also constitutes the cornerstone of the government’s Swachh Bharat campaign to promote clean habits and hygiene,” said Senior Program Manager, Google Maps, Anal Ghosh.
Like other searches on Google Maps, there will be reviews, ratings, visits and feedback for the public toilets, which will help both the public and the government take action.
