Bhubaneswar: Panic gripped the busy Market Building in Unit II area in the Odisha capital on Friday evening when a gang of armed youths with masks on their face suddenly attacked the street vendors and ransacked their goods.
The incident took place at about 6.30 pm when a group of 20-30 youths wearing masks barged into the market and suddenly attacked the vendors and ransacked their goods. They chased and beat up the vendors who tried to run away leaving their shops open.
The goons fled the area before the police rushed to the spot. Police later admitted some of the injured vendors to the Capital Hospital.
Following the incident, one platoon of police force has been deployed in the market area. While the reason behind the incident was not immediately known, police suspect business or personal rivalry could be the reason.
Till reports last came in, two miscreants have been arrested and two others detained. Efforts are on to to nab the goons on the basis of the CCTV footage, police said.
