Bhubaneswar: SAI International School student Goutam Das emerged as the Odisha topper in JEE Main 2021 with a 99.99 percentile score which gave an All India Rank (AIR) of 28.
Tanya Dixit achieved the best result in the state among girls, with 99.8 percentile score.
Goutam, who is eyeing an IIT Mumbai seat, also qualified in NEST 2021 with State Rank 1 and AIR 6. He had secured 98.6% in Class XII CBSE exam 2021.
Goutam, whose father Ravindra Das is a businessman and mother Madhumita Das a housewife, hails from Balasore.
A firm believer in practice and more practice, Goutam took over 180 practice tests to prepare for JEE.
“I did not aspire to become an engineer, but it was my love for mathematics for which I sat for the JEE exam,” he confessed.
Goutam is keen to graduate in Computer Science and ultimately wants to become an IAS officer to serve the nation.
Thanking his school, Goutam said the teachers were always available to clear his doubts over calls as classes were being held online.
“The school was very helpful in preparing me for the Board examination as well as JEE,” Goutam said, adding that he was lucky to have been mentored by Founder Chairman SAI International, the late Dr Bijaya Kumar Sahoo.
As for his advice to JEE aspirants, Goutam said, “They should be first thorough with their basic concepts and then get into other high level course content.”
