Government To Limit Carpooling To 4 Times A Day

The Ministry of Transportation is finalizing a draft policy for carpooling services being run as a commercial venture by private car owners.

There will soon be a mandatory KYC for the same and a person will be able to take a maximum of four rides a day.

The Centre wants carpooling to be a ‘no-profit-no-loss’ venture for private car owners. The idea is to share space in order to reduce pollution and traffic.

States will be able to add a small fee for carpooling services, the draft policy suggested. This way, states can make some revenue from the service and at the same, encourage the facility.

Ride-hailing apps such as Ola and Uber would have to create a separate platform if they want to enter the car pooling business, the proposal stated. Car pooling such as Quick Ride and BlaBlaCar are already popular in the big ciites.
