Governor Inaugurates Water & Sanitation Project For Ganjam & Nayagarh

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Wednesday inaugurated a water and sanitation project.

It will be supported by the Indian Red Cross Society (National Headquarters) and implemented by the Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha state branch.

The project aims at reaching more than 8,000 families in Ganjam and Nayagarh districts of the state.

Unveiling the project at a special event hosted in Abhisekh Hall of Raj Bhawan here, the Governor praised the efforts and commitment of the Red Cross for community development and humanitarian activities, especially for meeting the basic needs.

Sharing the project details, secretary general, Indian Red Cross Society Dr RK Vats said, “The goal of this project is to enable rural communities in the districts of Ganjam and Nayagarh to manage water and sanitation systems, in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission and work towards achieving open defecation free communities, through increased access to and use of household and school sanitation facilities to improve health and well-being. The project is expected to reach 40,000 people of 8,170 rural households.”

The project will leverage and align its activities with the Swachh Bharat (Clean India) Mission by tapping a multi-stakeholder partnership which includes the Republic of Korea National Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and Samsung Community Chest Fund.

Director, Blood Bank and project supervisor (health) and national programme manager from IRCS, National Headquarters, New Delhi Chiranjeet Das were also present.

Odisha Rural Development Department, District Water and Sanitation Mission, Department of School and Mass Education, Women and Child Development Department, District Administrations and Gram Panchayats are some of the important key stakeholders who will be involved in the
implementation.
