Bhubaneswar: With COVID-19 spreading among children and vaccination for them is yet to be started in the state, the Health department on Tuesday appealed to the parents to consult the doctors if they detect symptoms in the kids.
“If the children develop any symptoms like cold, cough and fever, the parents should take them to hospitals for treatment. Instead of hiding the ailments, they should consult the doctors,” said CBK Mohanty, Director, Medical Education & Training (DMET).
Stating that the immunisation vaccines taken by the children are not meant for COVID, Mohanty said the parents should be aware of it.
“If COVID situation turns alarming, the children’s education will be further hampered as the government will be forced to close down the schools,” he said.
Notably, 93 children of age group of 0-18 years have been infected by COVID virus in the last 24 hours. The number was 122 on Monday.
The second wave of the pandemic has claimed the lives of 39 children and adolescents in the state with 13 deaths reported between August 10 and 31.
