Govt Announces State Funeral For Manmohan Singh At Nigambodh Ghat At 11.45 AM Tomorrow

New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will be accorded a State funeral at Delhi’s Nigambodh Ghat on Saturday.

“It has been decided by the Government that State funeral will be accorded to former PM Dr Manmohan Singh. The funeral will take place at 11:45 AM on 28th December, 2024 at Nigambodh Ghat, New Delhi,” the Ministry of Home Affairs announced on Friday evening.

The Ministry of Defence will make arrangements for the State funeral with full military honours.

The last rites of the former Finance Minister and Prime Minister could not be held on Friday as the family wanted to wait for the arrival of one of his daughters from the US.

Singh passed away on Thursday night less than two hours after being admitted to AIIMS Delhi with extreme breathing difficulties.

The mortal remains of Dr Singh were kept at his New Delhi residence 3, Motilal Nehru Road, on Friday for the public to offer their condolences.

A stream of visitors, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and politicians across party lines, went to Dr Singh’s residence to pay tributes to the departed soul.

On Saturday morning, his mortal remains will be taken to the Congress headquarters for an hour. From there, Dr Singh’s final journey to the cremation ground at Nigambodh Ghat will commence.
