Govt Bans Fishing In Odisha Till June 14

Bhubaneswar: Like every year, the Odisha government on Tuesday imposed a ban on fishing in sea by fishing vessels for 61 days. The step necessary to conserve and ensure effective management of fishery resources. The decision was taken for sea safety reasons as well.

In exercise of the power conferred under the Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act 1982, the state government prohibited fishing within the territorial waters along the entire coastline of Odisha by all the fishing vessels from April 15 to June 14.

However, the fishing ban order does not apply to traditional fishing crafts up to 8.5 metres with or without engine.
