Govt On Alert As Rain Triggers Fresh Cholera, Diarrhoea Fears In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Public Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Wednesday warned that there was a possibility that the incessant rainfall across the state could trigger a fresh spike in cholera and diarrhoea cases.

The state Health Department has directed all CDMOs (Chief District Medical Officers) to remain alert and keep a close watch on the situation, especially on the southern districts which reported a large number of diarrhoea and cholera cases recently.

“We need to ensure people drink potable and clean water. All officials of the district administration have been asked to remain alert. Purified drinking water supply is being ensured. People are being sensitised to wash their hands frequently and not drink contaminated water as open defecation is still prevalent in many rural areas,” Mishra said.
