Govt Steps Up Measures To Prevent Water-Borne Diseases In Flood-Hit Districts

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is making all efforts to provide healthcare services to the flood-affected.

Health and Family Welfare Department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Dr Pramod Kumar Meherda on Wednesday directed for immediate treatment of diarrhoea, malaria, dengue and jaundice cases. He also discussed the preventive measures with the senior officers of the department.

Dr Meherda also directed State Disease Surveillance Cell to spread awareness about the diseases and collect all information about them.

According to government sources, 54 doctors have deployed in the flood-hit areas. A total of 82 medical relief centres have been opened and 85 mobile doctors’ teams instructed to visit the victims and treat them.

These teams have so far attended to more than 3,500 people.

To prevent water-borne diseases, 18,628 water reservoirs in the flood-hit districts have been purified and 540 villages have been cleaned by village welfare samitis. Saline, medicines to treat snake bites, ORS and halogen tablets have been stocked adequately.

The department officers have been personally supervising the services being extended in these areas, the sources added.
