Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has targeted to complete Bhubaneswar Metro project by 2027, said Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra on Tuesday.
Patra said this while speaking in the Assembly on the government’s ambitious project for faster and easier connectivity in the capital city. Patra said rail stations would be constructed at 20 places along the route of the metro trains in the first phase.
“The government had sanctioned Rs 210 crore for the metro project in 2023-24. In order to put the project on fast lane, the government approved Rs 1,000 crore in 2024-25,” he added.
Making the similar claim on December 1, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi had said 13 Metro trains will run in the first phase of the rail connectivity from Biju Patnaik International Airport to Trishulia. Each Metro train will have three coaches and are likely to provide service to around 95,000 people everyday.
Sarangi said the trains will have stoppages at 20 stations across a stretch of 26 km in the first phase. Out of those, three are located in Ekamra constituency, four in Central Bhubaneswar and 10 in North Bhubaneswar.
