Bengaluru: A PhD student from Odisha was not allowed to board his flight from Bengaluru to Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night after a GPS phone was found in his baggage by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) during security check.

Bikash Sahu, a third-year PhD student at the National Institute of Science, Education and Research in Odisha’s Khurda, was to board IndiGo flight 6E 411 for Bhubaneswar from the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru.

“I had my Gramin GPS phone in my bag and during screening, I was told by the CISF that this specific phone is prohibited inside airports. I was detained,” the 26-year-old told TNIE.

The CISF later informed airport police.

“I carry out soil testing as part of my course and this phone is very useful for me as a location indicator. Hence, I carry it with me always. I did not know it is not permitted inside airports,” he told TNIE.
