Grammy Awards 2022: Double Delight For Indians As Falguni Shah Joins Ricky Tej

Las Vegas: India toasted a double success at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards.

Besides composer Ricky Kej, who won his second Grammy, Indian-American singer Falguni Shah took home the Grammy for Best Children’s Music Album ‘A Colourful World’.

“Who would have thought that having my mother sing an old children’s lullaby from India would get a response from parents in America?” Falguni, who is popular by her stage name Falu, said in her acceptance speech.

Sharing a picture of herself with the award on Instagram, Falguni wrote: “I have no words to describe today’s magic. What an honor to perform for the opening number of the GRAMMY Premier Ceremony, and then take home a statue on behalf of all the incredible people who worked on A Colorful World. We are humbled and thank the Recording Academy for this tremendous recognition. THANK YOU!”

WHO IS FALGUNI?

Born iin Mumbai, Falguni, who is in her mid-40s, moved to the US in 2000 to further her career.

Currently based in New York, she has been nominated for a Grammy in the past in the Best Children’s Music Album category, but this turned out to be her breakthrough year.

Falguni has collaborated with several renowned musicians, including Indian music maestro AR Rahman

Falguni, who was trained in Jaipur musical tradition and Banaras style of Thumri, was a student of Kaumudi Munshi and learned semi-classical music from Uday Mazumdar.

As per her official website, she studied under late vocalist and sarangi played Ustad Sultan Khan and Kishori Amonkar.
