Puri: The entry of devotees was stopped and ritual of “Maha Snana” (grand bath) of the sibling deities was performed after a person vomited inside Jagannath temple in Odisha’s Puri on Sunday.
According to sources, there was a heavy rush of devotees for darshan of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabahadra and Devis Subhadra in the temple on the day as it was a holiday.
While the devotees were having darshan in “Bhitara Katha” after afternoon puja of the Lords, a visitor vomited on the stairs inside Jay Bijay door of the temple. After the priests came to know about the incident, the darshan was closed.
As per tradition, the entire area of the temple premises was cleaned and the Maha Snana of the deities performed at 4.40 pm. Then the area was sanitised by sprinkling bleaching powder.
After the puja of Maha Snana was completed at 6.30 pm, the prasad was offered to the sibling deities.
