Grand Homecoming For Rourkela Lad Muktikant Biswal

Rourkela: Denizens of the Steel City on Sunday organized a grand welcome for social activist Muktikant Biswal, who walked around 1550 km to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

Hundreds of people, with drum beats floating through the air, received Muktikant. He was garlanded and later taken to a nearby temple, where he offered prayers.

He said he was happy to be back in his hometown. “However, I am disappointed because my wish is yet to be fulfilled,” he added.

He said the fight will continue till the problems are resolved. “We will unite the people of the city and spread the word about our demands, among the denizens,” he further said.

Biswal reached Delhi on June 27 after covering around 1550 km by foot. He took the journey to remind PM Modi of the promises he made on April 1, 2015, to upgrade SAIL’s Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into Super Speciality Hospital and Medical College and construction of second Brahmani bridge in Rourkela.

He had then staged a hunger strike at Ramlila Maidan and later at Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas. However, he had to return disappointed having failed to get an appointment with the Prime Minister.
