Bhubaneswar: Devotees in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar will be transported straight to Odisha’s pilgrim town of Puri this Durga Puja with pandals being erected there, replicating the Shree Lord Jagannath Temple.
In Patna, Boring Road Durga Puja Samiti Vyapar Mandal is constructing a grand 60-foot pandal over 3,300 sq feet area, replicating the iconic 12th-century shrine. Samiti president Umesh Singh had himself travelled to Puri with a camera in hand, to study the contours and grandeur of the Jagannath Temple after the theme for the pandal was finalised. “The construction work has been going on for the past one month. Both the pandal and the idols inside are being crafted by artists from West Bengal,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.
The pandal is reportedly being built at a cost of Rs 12 lakh.
Similarly in Bhopal, a 105-foot Durga pandal has been built at Bittan Market ground, spread over 36,000 sq feet. It features a detailed replica of Puri Jagannath Temple with idols of Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra.
It is the centrepiece of replicas of iconic temples from across India being recreated at the market at the cost of Rs 1.25-crore this Navratri. Six pandits from Puri have also been roped in to conduct the rituals there, according to reports.
Hari Om Khatik, convener of the Bittan Market Samiti, told the media that 62 artisans from Kolkata are crafting the pandal and almost 95% of work has been completed.
