Bhubaneswar: Mir Sairuddin, accused in the Green Ray chit fund scam who was lodged at the Jharpada jail in Odisha’s capital, died on Sunday. He was lodged in the jail since 2017.
Sairuddin alias Gora slipped and collapsed while going to attend Nature’s call in the morning, reports said.
He was rushed to the Capital Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Sairuddin was the MD of Green Ray International Ltd and was arrested in connection with a chit fund scam. He had escaped to Nigeria but the CBI managed to arrest him from Kolkata in February 2017.
Investors from Odisha and 13 other states were allegedly duped of over Rs 1,000 crore by Sairuddin.
The state Crime Branch had frozen cash deposits of Rs 57 lakh in 46 bank accounts and confiscated 20.68 acres of land belonging to the company. The CBI took up the investigation in May 2014.
