Green Signal To Vedanta’s Coal Mine Project Over Forest Land Usage

Jharsuguda: Vedanta has got a go ahead for using forest land for its coal mine project. It was approved at the meeting of the forest rights panel.

The district level meeting of the committee was conducted on Tuesday. It was organised at the collector’s office.

As par

t of the Forest Rights Act, it was put up before the committee. The proposal of the state power transmission company was postponed. It was regarding the setting up of a transmission line.

Jharsuguda collector Kunal Motiram Chavan presided over the meeting. Use of forest land for non forest purposes was the focus of the meeting, besides claims of individual forest rights were reviewed.

Some technical discrepancies were found in the claims previously. This led to complications in land record rectifications. The collector told officials to go through all claims. He asked to reject applicants, who don’t comply with the norms regarding possession of forest land.
