Bhubaneswar: The demand for the resignation of Minister of State for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra over his alleged close links with Govin Sahu, the main accused in the lady teacher Mamita Meher’s murder case, is gaining momentum with every passing day.
“The minister should be removed first to carry out a fair probe into the murder case,” All India Mahila Congress President Netta D’Souza told the media after meeting family members of Mamita Meher at Kharni village under Tureikela Block in Balangir district on Sunday.
She also blamed him for the ‘unethical’ activities in the college. “Why the minister was visiting the college so often? If the Home Minister of the state will be involved in such activities, how the citizens will feel safe?” D’Souza asked.
Terming the administration as ‘Jungle Raj’, she said that the accused persons have crossed all limits of evilness. “The minister should be taken into custody and grilled as to why he was visiting the college on regular basis,” she added.
Earlier in the day, BJP leader Bijoy Mohapatra had dropped a bombshell on Sunday saying the minister had tried to broker a compromise between Mamita and Sahu.
“This has been going on for the past two months and efforts were made to settle issues at the minister’s residence in Raipur,” he said.

Odisha BJP spokesperson and general secretary Lekhasri Samantsinghar tweeted, “The minister’s involvement in the 23-year-old schoolteacher’s brutal murder is deeply disturbing. Sexual exploitation of young girls by the Naveen Patnaik government is unacceptable and need to be investigated by CBI.”
