Bhubaneswar: In a dramatic turn of events, a groom was arrested by police late Tuesday night in Bhubaneswar, just hours before his wedding, following serious allegations of rape levelled against him by her former girlfriend.
The accused has been identified as Siddharth Shankar Rath, a native of Ganjam’s Biswa
nathpur. Siddharth was taken into custody by Khandagiri police based on a complaint filed by the woman, who alleged that he had sexually abused her and promised marriage to dissuade her from reporting the matter to police.
Speaking to reporters after his arrest, Siddharth said he was in a relationship with a colleague from the same office in the Infocity area. “We were in a relationship but later agreed to part ways amicably. However, she filed a strong case against me after learning about my wedding,” he claimed.
Siddharth was sent to judicial custody after being forwarded to court.
The incident came as a shock for attendees and families involved in the preparations for the wedding on February 25.
