Balasore: Timely intervention by Childline officials and police saw the wedding of a minor girl being cancelled at Sarangpur village in Odisha’s Balasore district on Friday.
According to sources, a 17-year-old girl was being forced to marry a 35-year-old man named Sharat Kumar Moharana of Tudigadia village in Khaira police limits.
On being informed about the wedding, Balasore Childline officials immediately reached the spot. However, the villagers turned hostile and tried to attack them.
The Childline officials then sought help from Khantapada police and finally rescued the minor.
The 35-year old groom, who was on his way to the wedding venue, took a U-turn and returned home without his bride.
