Balangir: A wedding celebration turned tragic after the car carrying the groom accidentally ran over members of the procession, killing the groom’s father and critically injuring the bride’s brother in Odisha’s Balangir district.
As per sources, the mishap took place in Mandal village under the jurisdiction Belpada police station late on Tuesday.
After the groom’s fa
mily from Ampali village under Loisingha police station limits reached Mandal for the wedding, the procession began with fireworks and music.
When relatives and friends of the groom were dancing, the vehicle carrying him suddenly accelerated and rammed into the procession members. In the impact, the groom’s father, identified as Ghiblu Bag, died on the spot.
The bride’s brother sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The families from both sides decided to go ahead with the wedding rituals after mutual discussion.
After receiving the information, Belpada police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. The body of the deceased was sent to Patnagarh Community Health Centre (CHC) for post-mortem examination.
