Bhubaneswar: In a new turn to GST fraud by Centurion University near here, police have arrested three persons while the CFO of the university is absconding.
According to sources, following a complaint filed by the university regarding the fraud practices by CFO Himanshu Sekhar Kabi, the police launched investigation. The investigation revealed that Kabi along with the three persons, Sujit Kumar Ghadei, Nalini Nayak and Amit Mallik, had floated fraud firms Shree Venture and Sai Sanu Enterprises.
Kabi and his three accomplices had allegedly shown the two firms as the vendors of the university and deposited Rs 84 lakh from the university fund in the firms’ accounts.
During raids on the residences of the three persons, police seized Rs 40 lakh and expensive cars used by them.
Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested four persons, including three GST officials and an employee of the university in connection with the `10 lakh bribery case.
A GST team during audit had found that the university committed GST violations during the financial year 2017-18 as well as previous years and was liable to pay tax and penalty amounting to about Rs 5 crore a year.
The superintendent was accused of demanding the bribe from the account officer of the institute to settle the issue at a very less amount and suppress the matter.
