Balangir/Bargarh: Ahead of Dhanteras festival, which sees heavy purchase of jewellery by the people, officials of Commercial Taxes (CT) and Goods and Services Tax (GST) conducted raids on prominent jewellery shops in Odisha’s Bargarh and Balangir districts on Thursday.
According to a sources, GST officials carried out raid on Banamali Jewellers near Daily Market under Ward 2 of Kantabanji town in Balangir district.
Laptops and important documents were seized during the raid conducted by a 15-member team of Balangir and Nuapada divisions of GST led by Deputy Commissioner Kishore Chandra Meher.
Similarly, a five-member team of GST officials conducted raid on Samaleswari Ornaments at Mohanty Pada of Bargarh town.
The raids, which were carried out for alleged evasion of taxes by the jewellery showrooms, were going on since morning, the sources said.
On the day of Dhanteras, which will be celebrated on Friday this year, the people throng the shops to purchase gold ornaments as it is considered an auspicious day, as per tradition.
