Bhubaneswar: The officials of Commissionerate Of CT & GST conducted simultaneous raids on 17 jewellery stores in 12 places of Odisha, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, on Monday.
According to reports, a team of seven officials carried out the raids after violation of weight and measurement standards and evasion of GST by the shop owners came under GST department notice. Jewellery shops at Saheed Nagar, Mancheswar and Laxmisagar in Bhubaneswar were scrutinised.
Apart from the twin cities, raids were carried out in Berhampur, Rourkela, Bargarh and Sambalpur.
Allegations of some shops selling fake gold ornaments also came to the fore. The raids are reportedly being conducted ahead of the festive season of Dussehra, Dhanteras and Diwali when the sales skyrocket and chances of evasion of GST gets higher.
Raids are currently underway in Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur.
