Guess Where Did Mumbai’s Discarded Face Masks Go?

Mumbai: Now this is too much! Can you imagine buying a mattress for yourself that is stuffed with discarded face masks instead of coir, sponge, or cotton?

Police in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district has busted one such factory.

A case has been filed against the unit owner. Piles of face masks were also recovered from the premises of the factory. The police are conducting a probe into the issue, India Today reported.

The used face masks, found lying around the premises, were set on fire as per the prescribed norms.

The matter first came to light when the police station at Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) in Jalgaon, about 400km northeast of Mumbai,  was alerted about the racket.

“When the officials visited the premises of the factory in Kusumba village of MIDC, they found a mattress being stuffed with used masks,” Additional Superintendent of Police Chandrakant Gawali was quoted as saying by India Today.

“A case was registered against the factory owner, Amjad Ahmed Mansoori. The police are now probing the involvement of others in the racket,” said SP Gawali.

The production of face masks in India has increased significantly from last March when the country was producing 1.5 crore units each day.
