Gandhinagar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his mother Heeraben to seek her blessings ahead of the second and final phase of polling in Gujarat Assembly elections.
Visiting his centenarian mother’s house in the capital city of Gujarat is a ritual that Modi has been following for several years ahead of crucial elections.
ANI posted photos of Modi’s meeting with Heeraben, where he is seen having tea sitting next to her, beneath a photo frame of a previous visit. Heeraben is also seen blessing Modi in another picture.
BJP, which has been in power in Gujarat for 27 years, is looking to stave off anti-incumbency and a spirited challenge from Aam Aadmi Party.
The first phase of polling was held on December 1, while votes will be counted on December 8.
Modi was Gujarat’s longest-serving chief minister — from 2001 to 2014 – before moving to New Delhi to take charge as the country’s 14th Prime Minister.
